It was the Friday of DragonCon 2013, and one of the largest science fiction conventions in the United States was in full, chaotic swing. Downtown Atlanta was packed with thousands of Jedi Knights, Japanese robots, dragon mothers and everything in between. Maria had just finished drinks with a Match.com date, and Nick had been preparing for an 8am Saturday morning Economics class. Fortunately, both Maria and Nick had friends serendipitously suggest they head down to DragonCon for a couple of cocktails and some world-class people-watching. They caught each other's eyes across the bar at the Marriott Marquis (aka DragonCon Headquarters), and by the end of the evening, as they walked among the Stormtroopers and walking dead, they made plans to see each other again. Luckily, Nick didn't completely blow his chance when he declined a Krispy Kreme doughnut later that evening at 2am. Eighteen months, dozens of concerts, many many miles, and one tiny French Bulldog later, they now are planning to spend the rest of their lives together.
